Rubbish Issue on Lan Island - Pattaya People

At the Pattaya Mayor’s Performance Press Conference, on Saturday afternoon at Pattaya City Hall, a team of Spokespersons, led by Miss Yuwatida Jeerapat announced the results of the Mayor and City managers performance this year. Many questions were posed regarding various unresolved issues, as well as future projects of Pattaya City Hall. The answers were given by the spokespersons team.

One of the serious issues brought up was the massive amounts of rubbish on Lan Island, and what solutions are being sought for this problem. Miss Yuwatida explained that the number of tourists on Lan Island has been increasing rapidly and so the amount of rubbish there has increased commensurately.  The transport of the rubbish to the main land for processing has not been sufficient, however, Pattaya City Hall has proposed a budget for Rubbish Storage. This will enable Lan Island residents to separate the rubbish for recycling and energy generation. City Hall also plans to increase the transportation of the refuse off the island, to reduce the amount of rubbish.

Muay Thai Boxing - Pattaya People

Boxing at Pattaya Boxing World

Hundreds of boxing fans made their way to Pattaya Boxing World to watch an evening of Muay Thai boxing.  Tournaments are regularly played at this new spacious air conditioned boxing stadium located on Sukhumvit Road, next to the Mini Siam tourist attraction and opposite Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. On this occasion it was to ring in the New Year with a number of exciting international fighters getting into the ring to fight. Highlight of the evening was in the 80 kilo category, with a fight between regular champion Christian Pattaya Combat from Italy fighting Demon’s Shadow from Thailand.  In round 1 Demon’s Shadow seemed to have it all his way with a number of kicks, including a very old move called Jorakay Fahd Hang, which means Crocodile Waving Tail.  However, Christian, even though he was getting all the knee punches served up by Demon’s Shadow,  was not shaken off as the attacks continued. Then in Round 2, Christian got his composure back and went all out to fight back with his experience plus his speed, and loaded deadly punches that knocked out Demon’s Shadow before the round was over.  The ref declared Christian the winner, and received his winner’s belt from Mr. Niels Colov, CEO of Pattaya People Media Group.  Pattaya Boxing World presents 3 live matches every day from 6pm.

The big countdown to 2013 went like clockwork all around the world on Monday evening, starting in Australasia and ending in the Americas.  At the stroke of midnight it was the turn of Thailand and of course Pattaya to ring in the New Year – with a bang!  Suddenly, Pattaya Bay was lit up by thousands of fireworks in what can only be described as a fantastic spectacle of sound and multi colours. One guest, a European expert on fireworks told Pattaya People that the spectacular fireworks display cost approximately 50 million baht.   Everyone counted down the magical numbers 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and then the town exploded in a crescendo of happiness, especially around Bali Hai area which was designated the main zone for celebrating the event.  Indeed, people in the nearby Walking Street area got the shock of their lives as the countdown began, all the lights went out due to a massive electric short circuit.  Luckily within seconds the sky lit up with all the fireworks going off.  Back at Bali Hai headquarters, Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunplume and City Hall dignitaries led the crowd into 2013.  There were concerts to enjoy with performances from the likes of Kala, Stamp, Modern Dog, Titanium and Buddha Bless.  It is estimated that 400,000 people turned up for the occasion generating millions of baht for the Pattaya economy.

Stone Throwing Incident on Sukhumvit Road - Pattaya People

During their regular road checkpoints Sriracha police were stopped by the driver of a pickup, Mr. Jamnong, who reported that minutes before as he was travelling with his family along Sukhumvit Road, a man threw a stone which shattered the front windshield.  Fortunately, no one was hurt, but an investigation was put into operation after receiving details of the assailant.  Further down the road, officers came across the suspect man, and on approaching, realised that he was known locally to be mentally retarded.  Homeless Lek was found to be in a state of drunkenness and for some unknown reason started throwing stones at passing vehicles.  Jamnong did not wish to press charges but Lek was detained for the safety of all and his relatives were traced to make sure he gets proper medical treatment.
