Preparing for Chinese New Year at Central Festival - Pattaya People

 

A press conference was held at Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall on Sunday afternoon to announce about preparations for activities to celebrate Chinese New Year on February 10th.  This time round it is the Chinese year of the snake and Chinese people all over the world will celebrate and pray for good luck and fortune.   To celebrate the occasion, Central Festival will put on a number of shows including a Miss Quipao Beauty contest for girls aged from 15 to 20 years showing off their talent and traditional Chinese costume in front of judges and the public. Fun Countdown at Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall - Pattaya People

 

 

On Monday night, just an hour before the last midnight of 2012, at Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall, the Countdown Festival to 2013 at the Mall was packed with numerous visitors. Many were waiting for the Countdown to welcome 2013 in the most modern mall in town, and Central Festival certainly did not let them down.

Numerous activities kept the fun time going while waiting for midnight, especially, the wild and crazy concerts from Zeal, Disco and Jazz, as well as plenty of the food and drink on offer all around the premises.

Pattaya Countdown Festival into 2013 - Pattaya People

 

A gathering of notable people and Pattaya Hall dignitaries paid a visit to Bali Hai pier area on Tuesday evening to light up the Christmas tree and surrounding decorative lights.  Chonburi Governor Komson Ekachai, Minister of Culture, Mr. Sontaya Khunplume and Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunplume were among the guests who did the honours by lighting up to begin Pattaya Countdown festival into 2013.  There will be a number of mini concerts and stage performances and of course many food and handicraft booths to enjoy. Thousands of fireworks will be let off at the stroke of midnight to ring in the New Year.

Guitar Festival Donation to Father Ray Foundation - Pattaya People

 

 

Music professor Leon Koudelak the chairman of the recent “Classical Guitar Festival and Competition 2012” that took place at the Siam Bayshore Hotel in South Pattaya, on Friday 7th December, presented a donation of 25,000 baht to the Father Ray Foundation, represented by its head Father Peter. Resident Manager Holger Groninger representing Siam Bayshore expressed that the hotel was happy to host this cultural event every year and also to support charity with this donation. Media partner Pattaya People Media Group was represented by its CEO Niels Colov and Morning Radio host Barry Upton, who also served as one of the judges in this year’s classical guitar competition. Professor Leon Koudelak is a world renowned classical guitar teacher and performer; he is a resident here in Pattaya and the driving force behind the yearly “Classical Guitar Festival and Competition”.

Pattaya Beer Festival at Bier Fest Brewery - Pattaya People

 

 

Now in its second year of operation, Bier Fest Restaurant and Brewery, located next to Alcazar Cabaret on Second Road, held yet another Beer Festival with a selection of homemade brew that is made on site at their modern in-house brewery.  The opening ceremony on Sunday was presided over by Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Aegasing.  This Russian owned venue served up a feast of delicious international dishes in their four storey contemporary restaurant.  Staff dressed in Bavarian costume as everyone had the chance to sample mugs filled with the three homemade German brews on offer, Wiesbeer, lager and stout, plus a bite from the longest sausage in Thailand, measuring 71 meters long.

Fourth Fire Drill of Central Festival - Pattaya People

 

 

On Tuesday morning, the 4th Fire Drill of 2012 at Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall was held, pursuant to safety requirements and the wish to maintain a high standard of security at the mall.

A team of experts from the Labor Department, in cooperation with Pattaya Police led by Deputy Suppressing Inspector Pol. Capt. Seksak A-torn-gi-ja-wat and the Building Manager of Central Festival Mall Mr. Sornchai In-ta-ra-wi-chai rehearsed the staff, shop operators and public in dealing with many situations that could cause a fire.  Prompt and correct responses can reduce any losses by choosing the right types of extinguishers, as well as using the appropriate techniques for different flames, such as blazes from propane, gasoline, cooking oil, and electric shorts.

Classic Guitar Festival Ends Gracefully - Pattaya People

 

 

On Saturday night at the Siam Bay Shore Hotel, the Classic Guitar Festival and Competition 2012 ended very impressively. The talent and music of all the contestants wowed the judges, and the audience was charmed by the performances of the famous Classical guitarists from around the world, and the lectures about guitars from famous guitar makers.

The Winner was a young-20-year-old, Mr. Natdanai Pua-pahn-pra-soeng, from Thailand, who won a handmade guitar worth 4,500 USD from the World’s Class Guitar Maker from Indonesia, Mr. Hanief Palopo. There were 2 levels of competition, Junior and Senior, and the Winner of Junior Level was Mr. Nattagit Praew-jid.

The marvelous talents of the young Thai guitarists truly stunned the judges and the audience. The Prizes were presented after the Grand Finale by the Vice President of the Business Operators and Tourism Association of Pattaya, Mr. Grit Jiramongkol, accompanied by the Father Ray Foundation’s Fr. Patarapong Seeworagoon and CEO of Pattaya People Media Group Mr. Niels Colov. The income from this festival will be added to the Father Ray Foundation’s funds, to care for the 850 youngsters residing at Father Ray’s.

The great and breath taking performances were done by World’s Classic Guitarists like Hotoshi Miyashita, Leon Koudelak, Zul Kifly, Tomonori Arai, Alessio Arai, Monching Capio and Paul Cesarzyk and Thai Famous guitarists like Waratape Ratana-ampawan, Sgoen Siripatanagoon, Padet Nate-pak-dee, Pongpat Pong-pra-dit and Santi Gaewjai.

Traffic Problems during Vegetarian Festival - Pattaya People

 

This long weekend holiday in Pattaya has been extremely busy, especially with the buildup of heavy traffic on all major highways in and out of town, causing problems for traffic police and motorists alike.  Even more so the traffic was heavy in Naklua where the Vegetarian festival was on in full swing with many tourists and day trippers from out of town coming along to enjoy the food and entertainment festivities at the Sawang Boriboon Foundation.  Not only the food festival but also people flocked into Pattaya to celebrate and pay their respects on Chulalongkorn Day on Tuesday 23rd October, to commemorate the passing of Rama V in 1910. One thing for sure this long holiday certainly boosted the local economy.

Preview Concert for Pattaya Classical Guitar Festival - Pattaya People

 

In the buildup to the Pattaya Classical Guitar Festival and Competition 2012, a pre-concert preview was organised at the Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall arena overlooking the sea, on Friday afternoon with many of the international musicians performing a mini-concert of classical numbers for all to enjoy.   Attending were many of the festival’s official sponsors, including Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunplume representing City Hall, Pattaya People Media Group CEO Mr. Niels Colov, and representatives from Siam Bayshore Pattaya, the Thailand Guitar Society, and the Father Ray Foundation who will benefit from the proceeds of the festival.

The guitar festival and competition itself began on the morning of Saturday, 27th October at Siam Bayshore Pattaya located at the far end of Walking Street near Bali Hai pier.

VIP Visitor to Vegetarian Festival in Sriracha - Pattaya People

 

 

The Vegetarian Festival is now in full swing throughout Thailand, and one place that is taking the event seriously is in Sriracha. On Wednesday, former Minister of Tourism and Sport, Mr. Sontaya Khunplume paid a visit to the Sriracha Buddhist Association to pay respects to the various Chinese gods and goddesses, including the reputed largest white jade angel statue, all on display for the festivities.  The former minister talked with the local residents and then donated a sum of money to the Association before tucking into a vegetarian meal to celebrate the festival.

Malaysian Road Show at Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall - Pattaya People

 

Yet another colourful and informative exhibition was held this week at the Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall.  On Thursday, the official opening took place at the Mall for the four day Malaysian Road Show.  It is organised by the Malaysian Tourism Authority, promoting Malaysia and its culture and traditions to the people of Thailand and tourists here in Pattaya.   Attending and helping with the opening ceremony was Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Aegasing, representing Pattaya City Hall.  The occasion was followed by entertainment provided by musicians from Sarawak state. There will be many exhibitions and demonstrations to emphasise the beauty of Malaysia to the world courtesy of Central Festival in Pattaya – so if you get a chance go along and enjoy!

Preparations for Loy Krathong Festival - Pattaya People

 

One of the most beautiful of Thai festivals is about to happen all over Thailand – it is none other than Loy Krathong.  This year this extremely colourful event will take place on the full moon on 28th November.  Virtually every city, town and village will celebrate this piece of Thai culture which began in the ancient Siamese city of Sukhothai, by floating elaborate candlelit lotus shaped krathong banana leaf or bread based boats, filled with flowers, joss sticks, food and coins into the sea, rivers, ponds or any waterway, in order to float away bad luck and bring good fortune in the future.   In Pattaya, City Hall councilors held a meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss preparations for the festival, which includes a traditional beauty pageant called Miss Nopamart.  This year the area around Naklua old Market has been chosen for main entertainment and attractions.  Therefore, councilors held the meeting to discuss safety, crowd and traffic control, parking etc., to make sure this wonderful fun filled festival runs as smoothly as possible.

Vegetable Festival in Full Swing in Sriracha - Pattaya People

 

The Vegetarian Festival is in full swing all over Thailand, and besides the huge veggie food festival taking place in Naklua at the Sawang Boriboon Foundation; other areas of the Eastern Seaboard have been celebrating with their own festivities.  One place is in nearby Surasak, a sub district of Sriracha, where on Monday morning local celebrities attended with Thai-Chinese residents wearing white garb to make merit by not eating meat over the 10 day period of the festival.

Vegetarian Festival Gets Underway in Naklua - Pattaya People

 

 

Many Buddhist countries celebrate life by holding a vegetarian festival each year in order to, for a short period of time, to save the lives of many livestock animals destined for the dinner plate.  For a period of approximately 2 weeks during October, people, both vegetarian and non vegetarian, take part in non meat eating practices during their mealtimes, in the belief of gaining merit.  Here in the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand, it was no exception, with many towns and cities putting on their own festivities. In Pattaya, the annual Vegetarian Festival is usually organised by Pattaya City Hall and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, located in Naklua, where the main events takes place.  This year is the 9th occasion for this colourful and meaningful happening, which got underway from the 14th October with a beautiful parade of bands and customary dragon and lion dances associated with the Thai-Chinese communities.  The traditional giant pan of vegetables and rice cooked by a number of invited VIPs was the centre of attention before all the festivities began.  This year, the Minister of Culture, Mrs. Sukumol Khunplume was guest of honour to open the festival.  Speeches were made by Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunplume, Chonburi Governor Khomsan Ekachai and the Chairman of the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, Mr. Wisit Chawalit-nithi-tham.

Preparing for Ganesh Chaturthi Festival in Pattaya - Pattaya People

 

On Monday morning, at Pattaya City Hall Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Aegasing and Chairman of the Ganesh Club of Pattaya, Mr. Chaiwat Detnatee announced about the annual Ganesh Elephant God celebrations that is about to go ahead this coming weekend.  Most famously the Ganesh Chaturthi festival to honour the birth of the Hindu Elephant God is spectacularly performed throughout India for a period of 11 days during either August or September, depending on the cycle of the moon. Here in Pattaya, resident devotee followers of this beloved Hindu deity will begin performing religious rituals from Saturday, 8th September, beginning at Lan Po Park in Naklua.  The festival begins with the installation of elaborately crafted statues of Ganesha in homes and temples, with offerings of sweets, flowers and fruit in the hope of gaining good fortune. On the final day, the statues are paraded through the streets accompanied by chanting, singing and dancing, and then is ritually immersed into the sea or other bodies of water to complete the cycle of life according to Hindu beliefs.
