Expat Killed While Walking His Dog - Pattaya People

Right after midnight on Tuesday, the Pattaya Police Investigating Inspector Pol. Lt. Col. Songkram Pan-iam were summoned to investigate an Attempted Murder, after a tourist was stabbed in the middle of Soi Diana, between Soi Buakhao and  Pattaya’s Second Road.

The police, Police Volunteers and the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team immediately approached the scene, a beer bar area. A tourist, identified as Mr. Robert Hollick, aged 43 from New Zealand, wearing only a pair of sport shorts and some tattoos, was lying unconscious on the floor. The man was covered in blood and barely breathing, as he had been slashed many times upon his neck, hands and arms.

The Sawang Boriboon took Mr. Robert to Pattaya Memorial Hospital immediately, while the police investigated the incident, but the unfortunate man died shortly after.

Many good Samaritans and taxi motorcycle drivers managed to apprehend the couple who committed this crime - Mr. Andy Ringvall, aged 40 from Sweden and his Thai partner Miss Dao Pon-u-sa, aged 26. Both were very drunk.

Miss Dao claimed they have been together for 5 years and just moved to Pattaya from Koh Samui. The deadly duo were drinking in a bar before the incident happened. Miss Dao further alleged that Robert started the argument first, and began attacking Andy. So, Andy pulled out the cooking knife he always carries for protection, and started stabbing Robert to stop his harassment.

The Housekeeper of the Beer Bar, Mrs. Supi-sapa Wetsuwan, aged 47 stated that Robert was a frequent customer of this bar.  Andy and Dao were sitting, drinking at the bar, when Robert, who was walking his dog, a Pug, passed them and stopped to offer Andy sex with his dog. That infuriated Andy, who cursed at Robert, and they both began to argue. Nearby people jumped in, and helped to end the argument; then both sides scattered.

A while later, Andy and Dao returned to the beer bar, trying to locate Robert, but no one said a word. Meanwhile Robert foolishly walked his dog back past the beer bar. Andy saw him and without hesitating, Andy jumped on Robert and slashed him numerous times. Both Andy and Dao were charged with the murder of Robert, and were taken for legal proceedings.

LPG Price to Increase Incrementally - Pattaya People

On Tuesday, the Director of the Office of Petroleum and Petro- Chemical Planning, under Ministry of Energy, Mr. Suchalee Sumamaan publicized that the price of LPG, liquid petroleum gas, or propane, will certainly increase shortly. The government needs to stop subsidizing this type of gas, as it affects the other gasoline markets, and the government has spent over 100,000 million baht supporting the LPG price since 2008. Now, the Gasoline Fund is carrying a debit of some 15,000 million baht.

Since the previous government started supporting LPG, the price in Thailand has been a lot lower than neighboring countries. Reports have shown rampant smuggling of cheaper LPG supplies for resale in Thailand’s neighboring countries. In addition, the consumers of other types of gas have had to pay higher prices, unaware that the government boosted the prices of other types of gas to cover the LPG subsidy.

The estimated incremental increase of the price of LPG will be 75 stangs per month. This will result in a gradual increase in the LPG price, to help avoid sticker shock for Thai residents.

Thailand News: Ethically Correct...

Thailand's Daily News newspaper has reported the alarming news of the latest move by the Thai TV censor to improve the country's notorious soap operas.

Thais and even some foreigners who have been here long enough know how many of these popular TV melodramas are committed to over-dramatisation and stereotyping of characters.

Jealousy, class discrimination, chauvinism, exaltation of wealth and power, violence, typecasting and reinforcement of prejudices against people like housemaids, ethnic minorities and transvestites prevail in these television series. In recurring soap storylines, protagonists often can't seem to do anything wrong even when they commit some wrongs.

Daily News quoted Supinya Klangnarong, a member of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), as saying guidelines will be issued to TV and radio producers addressing the negative aspects of Thai soaps in the hope that the industry can regulate itself. While such a code of ethics will be non-binding, a warning will have been given and the future granting or renewal of permits by the NBTC to produce TV and radio content will be conditional on a review of soap-opera content, she said.

Supinya, who chairs the committee for the promotion of self-regulation, was quoted as saying that she is aware that Thai soap operas are like sweets.

The more you eat the more delicious they become. But if you eat them everyday you will become fat. So

Nightlife News: New Bee Bar Owners...

Taxes for liquor and cigarettes were increased yesterday, with government officials projecting the tax hikes will generate an additional 12 billion baht in revenue for the state each year.

The boost in excise taxes for liquor and cigarettes is also expected to reduce consumption by increasing consumer prices.

Cabinet members approved an increase in taxes for white spirits to 150 baht per litre of 100% alcohol content, up from 120 baht previously. For blended spirits, the tax was increased to 350 baht per litre of 100% alcohol content, up from 300 baht previously.

Cigarette excise taxes, meanwhile, were increased to 87%, up from 85% previously.

Officials estimate that store prices for Marlboro cigarettes should increase by eight baht per pack, six baht for Mild Seven cigarettes and six baht for Krong Thip cigarettes.

Benja Louichareon, director-general of the Excise Department said that the tax hikes were relatively limited as many rates already were at or near the ceiling permitted under the law. Sharp increases could result in more smuggling or tax evasion, she said, adding the Excise Department favoured an overhaul of the entire excise tax structure to allow current rate ceilings to be increased.

Thailand News: Always a Worry...

Two new laws have entered service in Thailand. One banning drinking of alcoholic beverages in vehicles and the other banning sales and drinking of alcohol in factories. They have been published in the Royal Gazette and were effective from today, August 8.

The two announcements were issued under the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act of 2008.

Jadet Chaowilai, adviser of the Network of People Affected by Alcoholic Drinks, thanked Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra for issuing the two laws which hopefully will reduce the number of deaths, injuries and disabilities as a result of drinking alcohol.

It was also pointed out that the law may provide another opportunity for the police to harangue people with false or real claims that passengers were drinking.

Club Nevada is located at the Beach Road end of Soi 13/2 (Soi Post Office)
The bar is still ticking over in its minimalist sort of way. Its probably the weakest of the clutch of GoGos in this soi and next. Far East Rock scores as a hangout bar while Hot & Cold and Las Vegas offer the best hands on fun.
Las Vegas generally has 3 or 4 dancers at a time and 3 or 4 more waiting their turn. The dress code is nude, topless or bikini depending on the girl. The music is oldie rock and it doesn't inspire the dancers very much.
The girls are friendly enough, but sometimes they seem to prefer to vanish off upstairs or outside rather than looking after customers.

Nightlife News: Happiness Is Not an Expensive Draft Beer...

ToyZ A-GoGo has been open on Soi 15 since December of last year. However the bar has now becomePrivate Dancer A-GoGo .
It is not yet clear what is behind the change but for the moment everything seems pretty much the same as before.
The Private Dancer name has been used once before on Walking Street. In the dim distant past, the venue that is now Guugle used the name.
Meanwhile on Soi LK Metro the new and smart looking multi level dance bar is now sporting a sign proclaiming the bar to be called Showgirls. The last I heard, the bar will open as a coyote bar just as soon as it can recruit enough staff.

Woman Threatens Gold Shop Owner with Knife - Pattaya People

Pattaya police was summoned on Sunday evening to investigate a person suspected of theft being held at a gold shop on South Pattaya Road. There officers found Miss Nisa aged 23 from Buriram province who threatened Mrs. Somsee, the owner of the gold shop with a knife as she was closing up for the evening.  Even though she was frightened Mrs. Somsee screamed for help as she saw people passing by her shop.  They came in and helped detain the woman and the police was notified.  In tears, Miss Nisa claimed she needed money to pay for her father to have a heart operation.  Needless to say, she was taken back to the police station for legal proceedings.
