Woman Rescued From Robbers - Pattaya People

On Sunday right after midnight, the Sriracha Police were called by people who reported an attempted theft and bodily harm on the Bangpra Reservoir-Naplaaw Road. The attack happened to woman, Mrs. Yupa Kreua-kaam, aged 49, who was abducted and slapped in her face many times by the 2 male robbers, aged 17-18.  These thugs had followed her on their motorbike, while she was riding her motorcycle home, taking her usual route. Then these ruffians drove up beside her, and shoved her motorcycle to the ground.

After her bike fell over and Yupa was lying on the ground, one of the robbers dragged her to sit in the front seat of the bike. Then he jumped on her bike to drive them into a dark bushy area, while the other thief drove the robber’s bike.

The one driving her bike threatened her to tell what was underneath the seat. Wisely, she did not tell them that it was 50,000 baht. She tried to look at the crook’s face, but she got slapped many times for trying. Then, passing a group of people sitting at Uncle Chob’s Restaurant, Yupa decided to scream out for help. She decided to risk it, as it was do or die at this point, because after this restaurant, there would only be bushy areas with no people, and she would probably be killed.

Clever Yupa decided to switch off the bike’s motor, and when the engine was off, she screamed again, and the locals ran out and saved her; however, the 2 robbers were able to flee the scene. The police started tracing the suspects immediately, and believe they must know of Yupa’s movements and work habits, and clearly expected to snag something valuable underneath her seat.

Shooting on Thepprasit Road - Pattaya People

On Sunday at 1:30 am, the Pattaya Police Deputy Suppressing Inspector Pol. Lt. Pallop ring-rod received a report of a shooting on Thepprasit Road, near the Weekend Market, where a group of teenagers were badly injured.

The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team were contacted for assistance, and at the scene, a red-black Honda Scoopy motorcycle was found in the middle of the road, near 3 injured male teenagers, age 15-15-16. One of them had been shot in the middle of his back, one in his right arm and chest, leaving him in a severe condition, and one was spared by the gunshots, and only suffered scrapes from falling off the bike.

The 2 injured teens were given first aid, then sent to Banglamung Hospital. The teen who was uninjured stated that they were on their way back from a live concert in Laem Chabang, with a larger group of motorcyclists and passengers. When they arrived in Pattaya, they were about to drop one teen at his home in Soi Korpai, but they noticed a big group of motorcyclists following them. Then, a male teen from the bike gang pulled out a gun and started shooting at them, before fleeing to Sukhumvit Road.

Further investigations will be made, starting with the CCTV camera videos.  Officials expect that the motive for the shootings could be revenge by an old enemy, or even just a macho, gun-happy teenager showing off his new-found powers.

FREE Sign up - Pattaya People

On Saturday, 3 college students from the Chonburi Technology College walked into the Sriracha Police Station with bruises and injuries on their faces and bodies. They filed a complaint against a group of over 10 students from Laem Chabang Technology College, who had beat them up in Sriracha, on Sukhumvit Road in front of Assumption School Junction. The cause of the assault was an incident a few days before, when someone sprayed the walls of Laem Chabang Technology College. The students of Laem Chabang Tech accused Chonburi Tech of this graffiti,  and there were many comments and messages on FaceBook urging the students from Laem Chabang to attack any students from Chonburi as seen to revenge.

Further investigations will be made, as this conflict between the technology colleges has been an unsolved issue for decades, and many innocent students have been beaten and even killed by this foolish fighting.

Bogus Lottery Sheets in Pattaya - Pattaya People

On Saturday night, Mr. Anugoon Gra-jaang-jaeng, aged 45, complained to the media about the Lottery Sheet for September 1st, 2012. He declared that something was not right about the lottery numbers on this sheet, and that the numbers shown on this issue were old numbers from previous lotteries.

At the first and middle of the month, the government reviews the Lottery numbers, and the Lottery Review Sheets called in Thai as “Riang-ber” are always sold all around the city, at almost every traffic light. The people who bet their money in the lottery always buy the lottery review sheets to see if their wishes are granted, but this September 1st Issue was confusing. Mr. Anugoon checked his 3 lottery tickets with this review sheet, and found that there were no winners for him, so he threw the 3 tickets away. However, his friend picked up the tickets, and checked the numbers online, and found that one of his tickets won 5th Place.

Investigating further, Mr. Anugoon brought up the review sheet of August 16th, 2012, and found that the 2nd Place and the 5th Place numbers were identical to the September 1st    lottery numbers.

Further investigations will continue to find the facts behind this incident. Mr. Anugoon believes that the printer of the review sheets should be responsible for the losses of the people who won the lottery, but missed their chance to collect their winnings, as they relied on the information from these bogus review sheets.

Mr. Hamed then overtook a vehicle in front of him, but was unable to return to the correct lane in time. So the Mazda 2 car ran straight into the motorcycle and its 3 passengers, causing Atiwat to careen over the car, while his girlfriend and male friend slammed into the car and the road, causing his girlfriend’s instant death.

Further investigations started with questioning Hamed at the Pattaya Police Station, and will continue when the injured can make full statements. The body of Miss Suchasinee was sent to Banglamung Hospital, and awaits the family for a religious funeral.

Lucky Streak Ends for Unofficial Lottery Agents - Pattaya People

Both Pattaya and Banglamung police cooperated on Monday to arrest two men, suspected of operating an illegal lottery ticket business in the area.  Chaiyagorn, aged 31, and Seksan, aged 38, were both arrested on Soi AR off Central Road with the evidence of a large number of unofficial lottery tickets.  Punters gamble by purchasing numbers from unofficial agents, on hoping they get the winning numbers from the official Government run Lottery.

As both offenders pleaded guilty, the police announced that their penalties will certainly be reduced when they get to court.

Now You See It, Now You Don't - Pattaya People

Pattaya police received a report from a 16 year old male teenager on Monday morning, stating that his belongings had all been stolen from him the previous night.  Oddly enough this 16 year old spark was a street magician, and that evening secured the services of a young woman on Walking Street to play magic tricks with back at his room.   When this budding young Merlin awoke, he found that the woman had done a disappearing act together with his notebook, mobile phone and some cash. If only he had been a psychic as well.  A report was made and an investigation is underway.

On Monday morning, at Pattaya City Hall Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Aegasing and Chairman of the Ganesh Club of Pattaya, Mr. Chaiwat Detnatee announced about the annual Ganesh Elephant God celebrations that is about to go ahead this coming weekend.  Most famously the Ganesh Chaturthi festival to honour the birth of the Hindu Elephant God is spectacularly performed throughout India for a period of 11 days during either August or September, depending on the cycle of the moon. New York Pizza house - Pattaya People

Almost everyone likes the taste of one of the world’s oldest fast foods – Pizza; and with the growing number of pizzerias here in Pattaya, it seems to confirm our affection for this time honoured dish.   One authentic American style pizzeria that has built up a very good reputation is the New York Pizza House, which we reviewed when they opened on Naklua Road in 2010.   Well, since then they have relocated to South Pattaya, in fact to busy Third Road.

Way back in 1947 brothers Tony and Sam Pontillo started the New York Pizza House in Batavia, New York.  What is the connection with Pattaya you are saying?  Well, years later through success with their business empire and having Neapolitan blood in his veins, their grand nephew Jeff Constantino took up the family business.  Since the grand old age of 13, Jeff has worked to create 25 branches of this famous pizzeria chain.  A few years on, Jeff fell in love – not only with his pizzas - but with Khun Pimjai from Thailand.  As luck would have it, the couple was persuaded by Pimjai’s brother, Chokchai, into bringing their special style of tasty pizza to Thailand; and so they chose Pattaya for their first branch of New York Pizza House, originally located in Windmill Plaza on Naklua Road.

At their new venue they still offer dining in, take away and delivery of freshly made crusty pizza and choice of lip smacking toppings.  The pizza dough is freshly prepared every day, as are Meatballs, Italian Sausages, Buffalo Chicken Wings and Pasta sauce – all made on the premises and using fresh ingredients to make traditional Tomato Sauce, and an appetizing White Garlic Sauce, apparently a favourite with New Yorkers!

New York Pizza House prices are very reasonable such as the Design Your Own Pizzas – with Small, (9 inches) from 160 baht, Medium (12 inches) from 250 baht, and Large 16 inches at 350 baht.  This includes Sauce, Mozzarella and from 30 baht per topping of your choice from the wide range of meat, fish, seafood and vegetables available.

Specialty House Pizzas range from 180 baht to 415 baht for the New Yorker – with Sauce, Mozzarella, Pepperoni and Garlic.  Other specialty pizzas range from 235 baht to 545 baht for Carnivore Deluxe and a large Western – with BBQ Sauce, Mozzarella, Chicken and Bacon, both of which we tried and found first rate, tasting really delicious! Other dishes – are Pasta dishes such as very tasty Spaghetti with Meatballs at 139 baht. Plus of course their house specialty dish of Buffalo (Chicken) Wings from 99 baht for 5, to 439 baht for 30 – coated with a choice of Sauces!  Salads from 59 baht for a Side Salad to 159 baht for Chicken Caesar Salad!  Another tasty pizza style dish is called the Ponzone (Calzone) at 199 baht filled with either Meatballs or Sausage – well worth trying!  Also on the menu is a range of Hot Sub Sandwiches at 99 baht for half (6 inches) or 189 baht for 12 inches.  Another firm favourite is the popular range of Combination Sets with a small Pizza with 2 toppings, Garlic Bread and 6 Chicken Wings for 329 baht. Other sets include Medium Pizza and 6 Wings at 419 baht, Medium Pizza with 12 wings for 499 baht and 689 baht for Large Pizza with 24 Chicken Wings.

So, visit New York Pizza House or make a takeaway order and discover the difference in taste of pizzas and tasty chicken wings!  Located on Third Road, next to the popular Boxing Roo Bar and opposite Soi Lengkee.  Delivery area to Pattaya, Jomtien and East Pattaya. Charge 30 baht.

Open every day from 3pm to midnight.  Telephone: 080 787 3330 or 080 787 2220.

Farang land: Miserable in Liverpool...

Victoria's Secret has quickly pulled an Asian-themed lingerie collection called Go East that was ludicrously accused of trading in sexualized, generic pan-Asian ethnic stereotypes.

The item nutters found most offensive? The $98 Sexy Little Geisha teddy. This item was part of the lingerie giant's Sexy Little Things product category

The Sexy Little Geisha teddy boasted an obi-style belt and was accessorized with chopsticks for your hair and a paper fan. Your ticket to an exotic adventure: a sexy mesh teddy with flirty cutouts and Eastern-inspired florals, read the promotional blurb.

However Mimi Nguyen, associate professor of women's and Asian American studies at the University of Illinois flagged the collection as a set of stereotypical images that use racist transgression to create an exotic edge.

She pointed out that all of the models wearing the Go East lingerie are non-Asian. Asians can't wear things like the 'sexy little geisha' outfit without looking ridiculous, she says.

Following this nutter uproar, Victoria's Secret promptly yanked the Sexy Little Geisha outfit, and then obscured access to the whole Go East collection.

Nightlife News: Speaking of China...

Show Girls on Soi LK Metro also opened on 4th October.

I visited Showgirls A-GoGo on Oct 5, 2012 and stayed there for the massive rain that night for 2-3 hours, before wading through ankle deep water on Soi LK Metro and knee deep water on Soi Diana and Soi Buakhaow.

The downstairs is badly screwed up and agree with Ishi's comments. Go directly to the second floor stairs if you can negotiate those seated or standing around.

The second floor part is much bigger and lots more girls, some coyote in the window visible from Soi LK Metro, as well as various cages, some dancing topless on the second floor glass ceiling of the first floor.

The third floor is for parties and short time.

There is a glass elevator between the second and third floors which moves up and down with a coyote dancer visible from Soi LK Metro.

News from Ishi, October 2012: First Impressions

Initial comments centred on warm beer and a rather poor layout of the downstairs bar.

Seems best to try upstairs. Drinks prices are reported to be higher than the Soi LK norm.
