Nightlife News: Fun on Soi 6...

Show Girls on Soi LK Metro also opened on 4th October.

I visited Showgirls A-GoGo on Oct 5, 2012 and stayed there for the massive rain that night for 2-3 hours, before wading through ankle deep water on Soi LK Metro and knee deep water on Soi Diana and Soi Buakhaow.

The downstairs is badly screwed up and agree with Ishi's comments. Go directly to the second floor stairs if you can negotiate those seated or standing around.

The second floor part is much bigger and lots more girls, some coyote in the window visible from Soi LK Metro, as well as various cages, some dancing topless on the second floor glass ceiling of the first floor.

The third floor is for parties and short time.

There is a glass elevator between the second and third floors which moves up and down with a coyote dancer visible from Soi LK Metro.

News from Ishi, October 2012: First Impressions

Initial comments centred on warm beer and a rather poor layout of the downstairs bar.

Seems best to try upstairs. Drinks prices are reported to be higher than the Soi LK norm.

Thailand News: Going it Alone...

Residents in 27 at-risk communities in Bangkok have been warned to brace for floods this weekend as heavy rains are expected from tomorrow (Friday) until Monday. All the flood-prone communities, home to around 1,200 families, are located along the Chao Phraya River in areas that have no embankment.

However, having an embankment is not always a guarantee against flooding. Such is the case in Sukhothai, which has seen water from the Yom River seeping in even though the level is not overflowing the embankment.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reckoned that relevant authorities would have to shift their focus on provinces downstream from Sukhothai.

We are now assessing the situation and trying to prepare solutions for all possible scenarios, she said. When asked whether her government would be able to control the flooding, Yingluck said, I can only say that we are doing our best .

In a separate interview, Komsan Maleesee, deputy dean of the Faculty of Engineering at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, said the government should not just say that the problem was beyond control.

Thailand News: Rain...Floods...Rain...Floods...

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has announced it is to hike park entrance fees from October 1 at 29 national parks countrywide.

TTR Weekly reported that fees for Thais to visit most parks will rise from B40 to B100 for Thais.

For foreigners, the rise for most will be from B200 to B500, others will rise from B400 to B500.

TTR Weekly quoted the managing director of Nutty Adventures and Ayutthaya Boat and Travel, Nithi Subhongsang, as saying that the announcement had come as a shock and would have a horrible impact on inbound tour operators because contracted prices are signed for the entire year and the ones for next year are effective until October 2013.

The parks department claims the top national parks are suffering from too many tourists and the new fees will be a deterrent to help fight deterioration of a sensitive environment. Also, the department says, it will use the additional revenue to improve facilities to better serve tourists .

Park fees were last raised five years ago, also at short notice, causing a storm among mass operators.

Solving Traffic Jam Problems in Sriracha - Pattaya People

A meeting was held on Monday by the Sriracha Traffic Committee to discuss overruling a previous decision to control the timing of a number of traffic lights, and allow the opening up of two u-turns on Sukhumvit Road in Sriracha.  At an earlier meeting it was believed that by controlling the traffic lights, it would help solve traffic problems in the area.  However, after a recent survey of the area, the traffic jams problem remains, so the committee agreed to find minor adjustments during rush hours to hopefully solve the traffic holdup problems in the city.

Monk Turns Thief - Pattaya People

On Wednesday, the Chonburi Police arrested Mr. Cha-non Jet-ka-si-korn aged 26, a monk from Wang-ta-ko temple, and Mr. Wit-ta-ya Saeng-kom, aged 22, after the deputy abbot of the temple filed a report to police that both of the suspects stole items from inside the temple, and sold them to get money for buying YABA.

Both suspects stole 36 100 year-old brass items, and then sold them at a secondhand shop, claiming that the abbot wanted to sell them. But the owner of the shop did not believe the culprits, and called the temple to verify their tale. After that, the Police were summoned, and arrested the two culprits.

Cha-non confessed to Police that he became a monk in this temple for a month, and since this temple is very quiet, with few visitors, he then asked his friend Wit-ta-ya to help steal the brass items in the temple to sell, as they could get about 200 Baht per kilo for the brass. The Police also administered urine tests to3other monks in the temple, and all proved positive for drug use. All the suspects were taken to the Police Station to await further legal proceedings.

Crack Down on Beach Beggars - Pattaya People

The business operators along the beach revealed that the numbers of beggars were decreasing on Pattaya Beach, due to the measures taken by the Police and other related departments to crackdown on these street people. This will also improve the image of Pattaya for the tourists.

The survey, released on Wednesday, found that most of the operators were very satisfied with the work of the policemen. The numbers of beggars and homeless people have been reduced, and the visitors to Pattaya will be a lot less hassled by these denizens of the boulevards. The crackdown was a joint effort between City Hall, the Tourist Police, Pattaya Police, Immigration Police and other related departments.

The beggars and homeless included children, women, disabled people, and the elderly; most were poor and were foreigners. The beggars reportedly had average income per day of 500 Baht.

Few Tourists Hazard the Beach on Rainy Days - Pattaya People

On Wednesday, many beach operators complained that the bad weather during the past few days prompted the tourists to back off from the sand and surf. Of course, this affected the beach operators’ incomes, as they are accustomed to earning some 5,000 Baht per day, but during the soggy weather, they were only making half of that.  Due to storms blowing in to Pattaya from the central, East and North East regions of Thailand, plus squalls from the Andaman Sea in the South, the incessant rain and wind made tourists afraid to swim in the sea or even romp along the beach.

The operators have accepted their fate for the time being, and believe that as soon as the sun comes out, there will be plenty of visitors along Pattaya’s shoreline.

Recently, Pattaya City seemed a bit quiet due to the effects of the storms and monsoons over the previous weeks.

But the city came to life last week, with many tourists and activities to bring the people out, such as the Pattaya International Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2012 held by Department of Intellectual Property in cooperation with TOT-Pattaya Office, Pattaya City Hall and many authorities and organizations and other fun events.

The weather in the past 2-3 days has been good for vacationers, and Pattaya seemed to be awake again after a whole week of quiet, caused by the flooding disasters in Isaan and Central Thailand.

Woman Robbed at Gunpoint at Her Home - Pattaya People

Banglamung police were notified on early Saturday evening about a Portuguese lady being robbed in her home at gunpoint.  Officers visited the one storey luxury house in Free Way Village on Mabprachan Horseshoe Point Road where the armed robbery occurred.

There they met up with the victim, Mrs. Suzette Lage.   In a state of shock the 55 year old Portuguese lady stated that she lived alone at the house as her husband had returned back to Portugal on business.   That afternoon as she was taking rubbish outside to the bin, she noticed two teenage boys in a white car parked nearby.  Then after a few minutes, whilst inside her home, she was suddenly confronted by the two teenagers, one of them brandishing a gun.  They had climbed over her wall and entered through the unlocked sliding glass doors.  They immediately threatened her to show them where she kept her jewelry and other valuables.

Frightened, she complied, and as they tied her up with a belt and covered her mouth with one of her husband’s shirts,  they r
ummaged through the house and grabbed a diamond Rolex watch worth 400,000 baht, a number of diamond rings, necklaces and her ATM.  Before leaving, they demanded she give them the PIN code, which she did. After they left, she managed to free herself and run out of the house to seek help from neighbours.   Immediately, police radioed information and a description of the attackers to patrol police.  It was later that a person came forward and told police that they believed that two suspects, fitting the robbers description, were in an angry state as they failed to get money out of an ATM at a Bangkok Bank branch in Naklua.  Thankfully, Mrs. Lage had given them the wrong PIN code numbers. As the case continues, Police are studying CCTV footage at the ATM in the hope of identifying the two thugs.

Pattaya Police Never Give Up - Pattaya People

Right after midnight on Tuesday, a team of Pattaya Police Deputy Suppressing Inspector Pol. Lt. Wisanu Chaisuwan went to arrest Miss Sakorn Chert-cheua, aged 28 from Pisanulok province. She was detained on Soi Buakhao in front of a Tesco Lotus Express Convenience store for Drug Trafficking, with 3 bags of Methamphetamines or Yah Ice, weighing 1.3 grams in total and a Nokia mobile phone.  This capture followed further investigations made by the Pattaya Police, after the officers arrested 10 drug addicts at a checkpoint, and the name of Miss Sakorn was revealed as the new local drug trafficker for many addicts.

After picking up on Miss Sakorn’s name, a sting operation was successfully executed. Miss Sakorn showed up on a red Honda Wave 100 motorcycle with the drugs and she pleaded guilty after she was arrested, which made it easier for the Pattaya Police to prosecute her.

Banglamung Police Road Check after Spate of Bike Thefts in Area - Pattaya People

Banglamung police set up one of their regular road checkpoints on Monday afternoon at the Railway crossing road to Soi Khao Noi.  The aim, as always, is to monitor traffic and suppress violations such as motorcyclists not wearing safety helmets or not carrying any ID.  Since there has been a recent high spate of motorcycle theft in the area, ownership documents were demanded to be seen.   Many stopped could not provide such evidence, so were either fined or in suspicious cases the bikes were impounded and riders taken back to the police station for further questioning. Of course, the other aim of this operation is to help crackdown on criminal activities, especially those involved in drug trafficking and drug addicts.

Car Free Day to be Held in Pattaya - Pattaya People

Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunplume was guest at Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall on Monday morning, to attend the announcement of a very unique event to be held in Pattaya.   The Mayor announced that Pattaya is getting involved yet again in World Car Free Day, which will take place on Saturday, 15th September.  Although it is not compulsory for cars and trucks to be off the roads, and there is no official ban, people are asked to be considerate and take part in this worldwide environmental event by not taking unnecessary car journeys to help save petrol and carbon emissions.  Pattaya has been involved in this ‘green’ project since 2000 with the help of the Pattaya Bicycle Association. As the event falls on a very busy Saturday, hopefully people will take to bicycles and the streets of Pattaya will look like Amsterdam or Beijing where bicycles are one of the official modes of travel.

Jesters Care for Kids Annual Fair a Great Success - Pattaya People

This last Sunday one of Pattaya’s most popular and oldest charity events took place.  Time certainly flies by as this is the 15th occasion that the Jesters Care for Kids annual fair took place, again at its regular venue, the Diana Garden Resort in North Pattaya.  The stage was set for a fantastic day of fun and games in the resort grounds. The place was filled with stalls, entertainment stages, public facilities, and loads of rides and games, plus a climbing mountain and horse rides, all set up for an incredible family day out, all in aid of charity.  This September, the weather was kinder than the same time last year, when sadly the event was a washout with a tremendous downpour of torrential rain.  To add to the great atmosphere, Jesters had the cooperation of Pattaya City Hall, Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Regents International School and all media groups, including Pattaya People Media Group.   All funds raised will go to helping underprivileged children and other local community services, such as the maintenance of rural schools with clean drinking water, toilets, canteens and other essential projects. Other needy organizations helped were Father Ray Foundation, the Baan Jing Jai, and Pattaya Orphanage.  Guests were entertained with singers, dancers and bands made up from local schools, including Regents and the Garden International School in Rayong. The day was a great success, and it is not over yet!  There will be a gala dinner planned for Saturday, 22nd September at the Amari Orchid Pattaya Resort on North Pattaya Beach Road where all the items from sponsors, such as famous stars of the big screen and TV will be auctioned plus surprise guests will attend to raise more money for the Jesters Care for Kids Charity.

Chicken Farmers Advised of Flooding - Pattaya People

The President of the Chicken Farmers Association of Thailand Mrs. Chaweewan Kampa made a statement to warn all farmers in low lying land prone to flooding to slow down on producing or breeding their chickens, especially in Ang-tong, and Ayudhtaya provinces in Central Thailand, as flooding is possible in the next couple of days.

The cost of animal feed has also increased, and the average supply of chickens to the market has grown from 20 million chickens per week to 24 million chickens per week. This indicates that the supply will outstrip demand shortly, and the marketing situation will become risky for the farmers.

More Charges against Fake Female Police Captain - Pattaya People

There was a news story broadcasted on many national and local TV networks about the outrageous act of a Policeman from Nongkam, and his lady companion dressed up like a female police captain. The dangerous duo destroyed a Chevrolet car and threatened the Chevrolet Sales Manager with a gun over the last weekend. After this news was announced, the truth came out that the woman was a fake police officer, and that her name is Miss Pira-yanat Sing-ha-noot, aged 30.

On Wednesday, Mrs. Srinuan Tong-neren, aged 39, entered the Laem Chabang Police Station to press charges against this female imposter on the news. Her name was different, according to Mrs. Srinuan, as she had rented one of her houses in Laem Chabang’s Green Ville under the name Miss Marisa Sing-ha-noot.

Mrs. Srinuan alleged that Marisa or Pira-yanat has been living in a house she rented to a doctor working in Sriracha since July 2011, and Marisa started working as a nurse in a factory. A bit later, the factory management found out that Marisa was a fake nurse with no license, so she was fired, but stayed on living in the house.

A few months ago, the doctor stopped paying the rent and could not be reached. Marisa refused to pay the rent nor to leave the house, despite the 3 months outstanding debt. Then, a terrible thing happened to Mrs. Srinuan, when Marisa showed up one day dressed like a police woman, with a man dressed in a police uniform, who claimed to be her big brother. They threatened Mrs. Srinuan and demanded 70,000 baht for house renovations. Mrs. Srinuan refused to pay, and stated that the doctor had already paid this bill after Marisa moved in, and furthermore, this expense was never agreed to in the contract. When Mrs. Srinuan refused, they destroyed her belongings in her house and threatened to return again.  The police accepted the complaint, and further procedures will be taken for the safety of Mrs. Srinuan and to find the perpetrators.
