At 2 am on Wednesday, the Pattaya Police Deputy Suppressing Inspector Pol. Capt. Supawat Rattapreecha were called twice for the same case, but from different locations. Mr. Krischan Lemke, aged 42 from Germany, called the police after his motorcycle key was snatched by a man claiming to be a police officer. The bogus cop had stopped him by cutting him off with a motorcycle, as Mr. Krischan was riding on Jomtien Beach Road in front of Villa Navin. Then the creep demanded Mr. Krischan’s ring, threatening to charge him for not wearing a helmet if he did not comply. Mr. Krischan refused to give the man his ring, as he knew this was not the normal practice of policemen, so the phony cop quickly pulled out the key from Mr. Krischan’s bike and road away.
The real police approached the scene, and Mr. Krischan stated that he had no motorcycle key, and could not go anywhere. While the police were investigating this incident, another call was made by a Thai man, Mr. Yuttasak Proem-pai-soen, aged 28, relating a similar situation. This time the extortion was done on Tepprasit Road, and the fake cop threatened to stick some narcotics on him if he refused to pay up. Mr. Yuttasak gave him 200 Bt, the only cash he had, then the thief zipped off toward Sukhumvit Road.
Later, as Yuttasak was riding his motorcycle past an accident, he noticed the same imposter assisting the police with traffic control. Mr. Yuttasak pressed charges against the suspect, identified as Mr. Rachain Kansamraan, aged 21, a local. He was arrested with a motorcycle, and a motorcycle key which did not go with his motorcycle. Mr. Krischan was contacted to identify Mr. Rachain, and he confirmed that Rachain was the suspect. Rachain claimed this was his first crime, which the police did not buy, so further investigations continue.
