Preparations for Loy Krathong Festival - Pattaya People

One of the most beautiful of Thai festivals is about to happen all over Thailand – it is none other than Loy Krathong.  This year this extremely colourful event will take place on the full moon on 28th November.  Virtually every city, town and village will celebrate this piece of Thai culture which began in the ancient Siamese city of Sukhothai, by floating elaborate candlelit lotus shaped krathong banana leaf or bread based boats, filled with flowers, joss sticks, food and coins into the sea, rivers, ponds or any waterway, in order to float away bad luck and bring good fortune in the future.   In Pattaya, City Hall councilors held a meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss preparations for the festival, which includes a traditional beauty pageant called Miss Nopamart.  This year the area around Naklua old Market has been chosen for main entertainment and attractions.  Therefore, councilors held the meeting to discuss safety, crowd and traffic control, parking etc., to make sure this wonderful fun filled festival runs as smoothly as possible.
