The business operators along the beach revealed that the numbers of beggars were decreasing on Pattaya Beach, due to the measures taken by the Police and other related departments to crackdown on these street people. This will also improve the image of Pattaya for the tourists.
The survey, released on Wednesday, found that most of the operators were very satisfied with the work of the policemen. The numbers of beggars and homeless people have been reduced, and the visitors to Pattaya will be a lot less hassled by these denizens of the boulevards. The crackdown was a joint effort between City Hall, the Tourist Police, Pattaya Police, Immigration Police and other related departments.
The beggars and homeless included children, women, disabled people, and the elderly; most were poor and were foreigners. The beggars reportedly had average income per day of 500 Baht.
